Bishop Savaryn Elementary School had great success on their unique school fundraising idea. The school, inspired by their 6th grade student Julian Alex, decided to create and sell Braille Christmas Cards for $1 each.
Julian is unable to see through the center of his eyes making it impossible to read print. He was initially the only one at the school learning Braille, but soon other students and friends followed his footsteps. Currently there is a whole Braille club at the school.
After the Braille club visited the City Hall School, they were introduced to the Youth Emergency Shelter and immediately wanted to help. The school started out with a goal of 200 Braille Christmas Cards and in the end doubled their initial goal!
